Well, another birthday has passed by, but counting backwards has proved useful, I'm a year younger now :P
So, who needs to get a Christmas tree, when I've a 30 feet real one out back!

For those of you who have been wondering what's going on with me, or who don't particularly care much, I am okay, just feeling a little in the doldrums, generally. I am not on the internet so much now too and that is likely to persist a while.
    Roll on 2006!

    Your Blog Should Be Purple

You're an expressive, offbeat blogger who tends to write about anything and everything.
You tend to set blogging trends, and you're the most likely to write your own meme or survey.
You are a bit distant though. Your blog is all about you - not what anyone else has to say.

    I am very sad
My thoughts are with Marsi (Sinister Her) and her family right now. Her parish officials are only allowing residents a short return in maybe a week to pick up essentials then no further return for a month! Much devastation not yet fully explored as of now and who knows what the situation might be by the weekend. At least Marsi and family are safe at her parents' place.

    Hurricane Katrina
I have been following the WWLTV.com live studio stream for hours and will continue to do so. The possible devastation of New Orleans and surrounding areas is frightening. I do hope that Marsi and her other half did decide to move out, or are as safely situated as possible. Fortunately her children left Friday for their weekend stay at grandparents. If anyone should hear from Marsi before she gets a chance to write in her journal (or otherwise surface), please let me and other friends in her list know.

    Work (again)
Well, nothing seems to be going right for me, yet. I'm scoring meetings but no work has sprung, so far. What I need is a firm of accountants, who maybe needs someone with experience in a wide range of tax matters (me, me!), not just the basic tax returns stuff, who can also deal with awkward Inland Revenue enquiries and investigations. It is the convincing that is defeating me. Maybe a tax site of my own can help this.

    Work, bleh
I am done with the Glasgow crew. So I'm out on my own and panicking ever so slightly, workwise. My good friend, Marsi, is designing a site for me soon, to advertise my tax products.

I have a few contacts I let drift, which I hope to resurrect at the nearby racecourse this week. It's a funny old world.

    Home again
The journey back was tiring. A delay leaving New Orleans, because of high winds at Newark, cramped my changeover time to 10 minutes from the expected hour. And I was 'lucky' enough to be seated near to three crying babies on the Glasgow flight, two with loud parents.

When I got home, my mail included a letter from the Glasgow mob asking to meet up again, to discuss their new tax advisor's views on the Inland Revenue Enquiry clampdown on expenses claims I had entered. I have just finished an angry phone discussion...I shall not be attending another meeting, or doing any further work on the Enquiry year, for free!

On a good note, my love and thanks go to my dear friend, Marsi, for looking out for me so well during my stay *HUGS*.

    Website?
I am seriously considering if having my own website may help attract new tax work for me. This after a suggestion first given me by my friend Tom, after he set up his site to showcase his bass music. My lingering doubt is that I hear that websites of even the big firms rarely get hits from people other than their existing clientele. New work and clients almost always come from recommendations or reputation. But I guess I have nothing to lose in trying it out. So my dear friend Marsi will likely have another site to design sometime soon!

    Arrival
Well I'm here in New Orleans! This time Continental operations were smooth thankfully.

The business meeting I attended Saturday was inconclusive after a five hour session. I was told I'll get a letter in the snail mail to consider when I get back home. I did tell them though, no pay, no more hours...which went down like a cup of cold sick, heh.

    Big weekend upcoming
So I'll be packing today for my trip to New Orleans, flying out Sunday morning.

I have a meeting with the Glasgow mob tomorrow, where I'll need to be ready for a possible punch-up. They will have a top local tax accountant present apparently...his firm must be after their tax work currently dealt within the family. The big boys in the UK tax field often get defensive at Inland Revenue investigations, for what they label as 'awkward points of contention', so he will probably recommend a climb-down on the tax claim I had made on the Glasgow mob's behalf. I will be ready to support what I did. I've pretty much decided though...no pay, then no further work for them. That said, my tax work future might be uncertain.

Afterwards, I'll sit back in the hotel to watch the Grand National, one of my favourite horse races of the year. I may have to pinch some chocolate out of the carrier bag!

I am so looking forward to enjoying the company of my dear friend Marsi and her family for a little while. I can't wait!
